I HOPE YOU’RE DOING WELL IN GERMANY

by Bailey Jordan Garcia

I hope you're doing well in Germany

I hope you had a flight with no turbulence

I hope you arrived and instantly inhaled in the word "home"

I hope you find purpose with the job in your uncle's shop

I hope you enjoy sleeping on the thinnest of cots while listening to the crickets of Munich sing

you the sweetest of lullabies

I hope you galavant around town at night getting drunk in the rain like we always talked about

I hope you get to use the German words you'd been practicing in crosswords for so long

I hope you spend your weekends hopping on trains finding yourself a regular at The Louvre

I hope you found a quiet place by the river to write love poems and a loud place in the park to

write breakup ones

I hope you find that the bar patrons can't stop singing your Irish drinking songs

I hope you learned to make schnitzel that's edible

I hope you found a small coffee shop you like

I hope you met a barista there

I hope you fell in love with her

I hope you feel safe enough to hold her hand

I hope you feel safe enough to be yourself

I hope you looked back and wished you had left things a bit differently

I hope you left everything that was wrong behind

I hope you stumble down the cobblestone at two in the morning, look up at the moon, and thank

your stars you did what was right for yourself

I hope you're unbelievably happy in Germany

But

If you never left Anaheim

And only left me

I still hope you're doing well

But not nearly as much
